  • Lima, Sep. 07 (ANDINA). Peruvians have always taken great pride in their national cuisine and its popularity has continued to grow over the years and in different countries, including neighboring Chile.

In remarks at Tuesday's opening of the Third International Gastronomic Fair Mistura 2010 in Lima, event organizer Gaston Acurio said that "Chileans could pay three times more for a Peruvian dish than they do for a French one."

The celebrity chef, owner of international restaurants and author of several books, pointed out that the 'made in Peru' brand is increasingly popular in the world and it involves not only cuisine, but also cinema and fashion.

"Peruvian cuisine is gaining ground all over the world thanks to its exquisite taste and presentation," said the star chef who aims to make the annual event as bigger as Germany's Oktoberfest.

Acurio went on to say that the recent creation of Peru's Ministry of Culture will further boost our gastronomy both within and outside our borders.

Mistura 2010 opened Tuesday and will run through Sunday, September 12, at Parque de la Exposicion in Lima.
